A new video by Stahls’ TV, Sterling Heights, Mich., shows the ins and outs of layering multiple colors and styles of heat-transfer film onto apparel.
In the video, “Layering Heat Transfer Vinyl: A Guide to Success,” (shown above) Stahls’ TV educator Josh Ellsworth covers the basics, including selecting compatible materials, achieving accurate registration and more.
Viewers also will learn what to look for in terms of transfer material composition and software capabilities for smart, accurate and consistent layered designs. They also will learn about alternatives to direct layering, such as trapping, gap outlining and nesting, that can make for lighter-weight designs and save money when it comes to material costs.
Tips and tools, such as Stahls’ Material Combination Chart, also are showcased. The video also demonstrates advanced techniques for creating mixed-media designs and special effects, and offers practical strategies for surmounting common challenges. — J.L.
