Landesmans Win SGIA Parmele AwardDec 1, 2008
Established in 1955, the Howard Parmele Award is named for one of SGIA's founders and typically is given to one person each year. It's considered the "Oscar" or "Emmy" of the screen printing and graphic imaging industry, and is given to someone whose dedication and accomplishments reflect a commitment to improve the industry's products, services and image, according to SGIA. This year, however, the Landesman brothers deserved the distinction, says Kent Yunker, outgoing SGIA chariman. "It's an incredible honor to receive the Parmele Award," David Landesman says. "We were very surprised. It's a double honor, since our dad [Eugene Landesman] won the award 19 years before us." The Landesman brothers developed the flash unit for the manual textile trade, the first bench model infrared dryer and hands-on screen printing education for industry newcomers, according to SGIA. They also have served on several SGIA committees, and have donated services and equipment to SGIA's Screen Printing Technical Foundation. "[The Landesmans] have promoted truly forward-thinking technologies and processes, while contributing to the specialty imaging industry's overall growth," says Michael Robertson, SGIA president and CEO. In other news, Carl Baldwin of Falcon Graphics Inc., Arlington, Texas, was named chairman of SGIA's 2009 Board of Directors. — S.M. RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
