Workhorse Reduces Carbon Footprint with Shortened Work WeekJune 8, 2009Workhorse Products, Phoenix, recently shortened its work week to four days after researching the impact of its five-day work week on the environment. The company conducted research to look at the effects of the amount of carbon dioxide its 100 employees discharged into the air as a result of driving cars five days a week to work. Based on the average employee driving approximately 15 miles each way to work, the company found that eliminating that drive for all 100 employees once a week would prevent approximately 5,200 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released. "In the manufacturing industry, there are not a lot of processes that we do that are possible to make greener, but in this area we can make a difference," says Tim Dunham, sales manager. "Now we operate with a very minimal staff, technicians and a couple of shipping people on Fridays so none of our customers are without support. But in terms of manufacturing, our plants are open only four days a week." RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
