NASCAR Team Fanwear to Use REPREVE Recycled PolyesterJune 12, 2009Unifi Inc., the Greensboro, N.C.-based textile manufacturer of recycled polyester fiber, announced that its REPREVE brand will be featured in the new line of branded apparel for fans of the Sundrop NASCAR race team. Sundrop returns to NASCAR team sponsorship with the No. 01 car driven by Danny O’Quinn, Jr., 2006 Busch Series rookie of the year. Sundrop citrus soda has been a regional favorite in the Southeastern United States, and the brand had been team sponsor of Dale Earnhardt until the death of the NASCAR legend. “We are very happy to be a part of Sundrop’s re-entry into racing and look forward to expanding our partnership,” says Roger Berrier, executive vice president of Unifi Inc. REPREVE is a family of 100% recycled fibers used to make fabrics suitable for many different products. REPREVE reduces energy consumption and conserves petroleum-based resources by offsetting the need to produce virgin polyester fibers. “I am proud to be associated with Sundrop and the REPREVE brand,” says O’Quinn, driver of the JD Motorsport’s 01 Chevrolet Impala. “This is a great opportunity to raise the visibility of recycling and this partnership will show our fans how curbside recycling can make a difference, even in the clothes we wear.” “As a bottling company, we understand the impact our products have on the environment, so it’s extremely important for us to take a proactive role in educating our customers on how we can all make a big difference,” says Jay Falls, president of Choice USA Beverage Inc. “In addition to selling Sundrop apparel made with REPREVE, part of our education plan includes the promotion of the REPREVE brand on both the Sundrop race car and show car. Our customers are very loyal to the Sundrop brand and we are confident that our initiatives will resonate within the entire NASCAR community.” The Sundrop race team and show car will be on tour throughout the Southeast fro the rest of the year. Sundrop race team apparel featuring recycled REPREVE will be sold during stops at various retail locations. RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
