Charles River President Bikes for Cancer CharityNov 24, 2008Charles River Apparel president Barry Lipsett participated in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, a two-day bike-a-thon that raises money to fight cancer. This year, the cyclists raised $35 million. All proceeds were donated to the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and care at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge was started in 1980 by hiking and biking enthusiast Billy Starr after the loss of his mother and other family members to cancer. This year's challenge began in Sturbridge, Mass., winding through 46 cities and towns to end in Provincetown, Mass. Barry, along with his sister Julie Lipsett, biked 160 miles during the challenge in honor of his later sister Susan Lipsett DeVries, who lost her struggle with breast cancer in 2006.
