Heat Presses Boast New Applications and Features

While maintaining its inherent simplicity, the heat press has evolved in both features and applications, making it one of the most versatile pieces of apparel decoration equipment available, according to Michael Kaminsky, VP Sublimation Marketing/Sales Group, RPL Supplies Inc., Garfield, N.J.

"A heat press is a great investment because there are many uses for it, including applying transfers produced from an ink jet printer or laser printer/copier, pre-made decals and rhinestones," he says. "It also can be used for all the sublimation products available — from metals and plastics to fabrics and more!"

In addition, manufacturers today offer all sizes of platens for different applications and users. "There are presses for the small business producing 8.5" x 11" transfers or decals that have all the features the larger presses have," he says. There also are presses available in models with platens ranging from 11" x 15" to 16" x 20". "Larger platens are great for names and numbers on jerseys. Also, doing the process in one press cuts down production time," he adds.

Kaminski says RPL Supplies will be showing the new models of Hix and Stahls' auto-opening heat and cap presses at ISS Orlando during the show's Feb. 8-10 run at the Orange County Convention Center. "These machines have digital timers and temperatures as well as a digital pressure read-out and require no air compressor hook-up," he says. "Years ago, to get these features, you needed an air compressor hooked to a heat press."

A long-time member of the Imprinted Sportswear Show conference faculty, Kaminski will be teaching a seminar titled "Today's Transfer Technology: Ramp Up Your Profit Potential" on Friday morning, Feb. 8, and conducting a hands-on clinic on heat press operation, maintenance and applications on Saturday morning, Feb. 9.

Other seminars related to the topic of heat printing include "Surveying the Dual-Mode Printer Landscape for the Cotton and Performance Apparel Market," "Understanding How a Vinyl Cutter and Heat Press Can Bring Versatility to Your Business" and "Marketing and Selling Digitally Decorated Garments." — R.L.
