Cotswold Industries Introduces Biodegradable Embroidery BackingApril 29, 2008Embroiderers now have a new stabilizer they can use to satisfy customer requests for totally "green" embroidered products. A product of New York-based Cotswold Industries and Lebow Consulting of Marion, Mont., Tearaway Washaway is constructed half and half of water-soluble and non-water-soluble fibers. According to the manufacturer, the stabilizer's ideal for open type embroidery designs on light cottons and linen. To use Tearaway Washaway, you first tear away the material as you would remove any tearaway backing; however, the remaining water-soluble part of the backing is washed away during the initial laundering. What remains are the embroidery stitches that are entangled with the non-water-soluble fibers, which in turn keep the embroidery looking good, says the company. Tearaway Washaway is available in 1.5- and 2-ounce weights for normal applications as well as 2.5-ounce for heavier fabrics and stitch counts. RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
