Silicone-Based Inks Offer Breakthrough TechnologiesJuly 30, 2008Dow Corning Corp., Midland, Mich., has developed a breakthrough technology for screen printing inks that allows manufacturers to print on a wide range of high-performance garments. 9601 Textile Printing Ink is a silicone-based ink that offers improved durability, a non-tacky finish, better colorfastness and high elongation on elastic fabrics. Dow Corning’s 9601 ink is suitable for manual screen printing processes on most natural and synthetic fabrics including elastic fabrics. The company’s Active Protection System provides protection without impeding freedom of movement and flexibility. The system uses a silicone coating that remains soft and flexible under normal conditions. But when struck by high-impact force, the material hardens instantly to help protect the wearer against injury. When the force is removed, the material returns to its flexible state. “Modern athletes demand equipment, like athletic apparel, that combines protection with the latest looks,” says Charlie Zimmer, senior product marketing specialist for the company. “New developments in silicone technology allow athletic apparel manufacturers to deliver maximum performance, offering advanced protection while enhancing the aesthetic appeal and comfort of their products.” RECENT INDUSTRY NEWS HEADLINES
