Hanesbrands Receives United Way Spirit AwardJuly 1, 2009Employees at Hanesbrands Inc.’s headquarters in Winston- Salem, N.C., recently received the 2008 Employee Spirit Award from the United Way of North Carolina for raising more than $1.9 million for the organization’s Forsyth County branch. “The United Way of Forsyth County raised 95% of its total campaign goal during 2008, and Hanesbrands’ employees really came through for us, exceeding their goal for the year,” says Ron Drago, president and CEO, United Way of Forsyth County. “We are extremely grateful for the contribution, and we are truly inspired by the heart and soul that Hanesbrands’ employees pour into their annual campaign.” This is the second time in three years that Hanesbrands employees have received the recognition of running the best campaign in North Carolina representing 2,500 to 5,000 employees. In the past decade, the company has raised nearly $25 million for United Way of Forsyth County to support families in need. The company’s 2008 United Way campaign included employee pledges, product sales and a corporate donation. The two product sales — one for employees and one for the Winston- Salem community — raised more than $250,000 toward the campaign goal. The event offered shoppers low-priced apparel, with all the proceeds going directly to help families and individuals in need. Hanesbrands donated Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, Just My Size and other apparel, and more than 100 volunteers from Hanesbrands and the United Way helped execute the sales.
