A4 Donates to Haiti Relief EffortsMarch 24, 2010Vernon, Calif.-based A4, manufacturer of performance athletic apparel, recently coordinated relief efforts to Haiti by working with World Vision and Food for the Poor to send 62,000 new garments to the earthquake-stricken country. A4 shipped a full, 53’ container to Miami for trans shipment to Haiti’s capital, Port Au Prince, by World Vision. “We reached out to World Vision to help us deliver the products to the quake survivors who needed it most,” says Mark Mertens, CEO, A4. “With more than 3,000,000 garments in inventory that are perfectly suited for the tropical climate, I knew we could find some extra stock that we would never miss.” “Everyone in our company supported the effort,” adds Mertens. “I was touched when our staff added their own cash contribution to the effort. We are in a tough and challenging business and it is gratifying to see our collective humanity come to the fore.” Mertens says that A4’s effort is just a drop in the bucket. “Everybody in this business has surplus goods. We decided that it was better to give away some of our excess inventory instead of closing it out. I hope others will find a way to pitch in too.” For information, visit www.a4.com.
