Brother's Quattro 6000D is 'Green and Wired'

May 14, 2010

Brother Intl. Corp., Bridgewater, N.J., recently announced that its Quattro 6000D embroidery, quilting and crafting machine was one of many smart technologies included in the Museum of Science and Industry's (MSI) Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit.

The Smart Home is a fully functioning, eco-friendly modular home located on the museum's grounds. It has been designed to reflect the lifestyle of an empty nester couple and features soft, organic textures and colors fused with a contemporary style, as well as unique green technology, according to the company. Brother's Quattro 6000D is featured in the home's office.

The machine is RoHS-compliant, meaning there were no hazardous materials — as specified under RoHS — included in its manufacturing. In addition to embroider, quilting or crafting projects, the Quattro 6000D can be used to recycle and upcycle old clothing or home décor items into new, unique and trendy fashions, according to the company.

The Quattro 6000D also includes InnovEye technology, which projects a magnified view of the sewing area on a wide-angle LCD display so that users can see exactly where the needle will be placed. And with the help of the adhesive Snowman Embroidery Positioning Marker, users don't have to worry about imperfect embroidery design placement. When the Snowman is placed on hooped fabric, the InnovEye technology automatically positions the needle above the marker for perfect placement.

The InnovEye also detects whether fabric is slightly mis-hooped and makes the correction by automatically rotating the embroidery design on the screen. The machine also includes Print and Stitch technology, a multimedia art form that combines embroidery with printed backgrounds for 3-D art.

The Smart Home exhibit runs through Jan 9, 2011. To learn more and purchase tickets, visit msichicago.org.
