Charles River Apparel Expands Breast Cancer Awareness FundraisersOctober 26, 2011Charles River Apparel, Sharon, Mass., will “go pink” during October 2011 in support of breast cancer awareness. This month, the company has expanded its breast cancer awareness efforts in a variety of ways, including a promotion with Boston-area sports talk radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub, the flagship station of the New England Patriots Radio Network. On Oct. 14, the hosts of each of the station’s sports talk shows wore pink apparel from Charles River Apparel during their broadcasts to raise awareness of the disease. Each of the pink items worn by the on-air talent was autographed and then donated to local cancer-related charities to be auctioned to raise money for cancer research and support efforts, according to the company. In 2008, the company created its Be Pink Proud program, which donates a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of selected pink styles to help benefit those afflicted with cancer. The program was created in memory of Charles River employees and family members Susan Lipsett de Vries and Eleanore Lipsett, both of whom lost battles with cancer. The program runs year-round. Additionally, Charles River Apparel hosted local boutique and salon Gloss & Glamour at its company headquarters to give employees pink feather extensions, with the money going toward the Gloria Gemma Foundation — a Rhode Island-based non-profit cancer organization focused on raising breast cancer awareness and fundraising for local causes.
