Gildan Launches Program to Support CharitiesFebruary 05, 2010
"As part of our overall [principle of] Genuine Stewardship, the "I Support..." program will award a selected charity up to $100,000 and is designed to create awareness of the importance of charitable donations and volunteerism within our industry," says Garry Bell, vice president of global marketing, Gildan. The "I Support..." program, which was heavily promoted at ISS Long Beach, held this past January, asks participants to submit the names of the charities they personally support and the reasons that those charities are making a genuine positive impact on their communities. These stories are posted at genuinegildan.com, where visitors can vote for their favorite stories and charities, and also share their interest through various social media sites. The votes will be accumulated on April 15 and the Top 10 charities will be selected. An independent panel of judges will review them and assess the charities' work, as well as the quality of the stories supporting them, against the core Gildan Genuine Stewardship values. The amount of money donated will be equal to 1% of the profits (up to $100,000) generated from the sale of Gildan's Ultra Cotton Adult T-shirts (style 2000), in the nine colors contained in the Genuine Collection, from now until June 30.
