Homeboy Industries Wins Gildan’s “I Support …” Campaign

January 13, 2011

Gildan Activewear, St. Michael, Barbados, recently awarded Homeboy Industries, Los Angeles, its $100,000 donation for being named the top charity in the company’s “I Support …” charitable campaign.

Started in 2010, the “I Support…” campaign was funded through sales of Gildan’s best-selling T-shirt (style 2000). The campaign asked industry partners and customers to share their thoughts on deserving charities in North America to help guide the $100,000 donation. With more than 100,000 votes, Homeboy Industries was voted into the Top 10 of the “I Support …” campaign via public voting.

Then, Homeboy Industries, along with the other Top 10 charities, submitted responses to a standardized questionnaire to Gildan for individual consideration. A panel of judges then selected Homeboy as the charity from the Top 10 that best illustrated the characteristics of accountability, sustainability and impact.

The donation ceremony is scheduled to be held Jan. 13 at PPAI Las Vegas, where representatives from Homeboy, Gildan and several of the participating judges will be in attendance.
