Locally Grown Clothing Co. Supports Food MovementApril 27, 2010Locally Grown Clothing Co., Des Moines, Iowa, recently launched a new Web site offering products supporting the local food movement, enabling consumers to buy organic apparel that supports local farmers and local eating. The Web site also lists resources for people who want to support sustainable agriculture and family farms. Wearing Locally Grown apparel lets people express their pride and support for local food producers, the community and environment, according to the company. Shoppers can chose T-shirts, sweat shirts, onesies and bags, all of which feature messages like "Locally Grown," "Locavore," and "Urban Farmer." Current designs celebrate Iowa, California, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin. More state-specific designs will emerge as Locally Grown Clothing Co. expands nationwide, according to the company. "I started selling Locally Grown shirts at the Des Moines Downtown Farmers' Market, and that simple message [of supporting our local farmers] resonated so broadly," says Fred Scott, founder and CEO of Locally Grown Clothing. "Expanding to an online store lets like-minded people find products to connect with a lifestyle that's become important to them." Locally Grown products are made in the USA with pesticide-free organic cotton, whenever possible, according to the company. Designs are printed with environmentally friendly water-based inks and all hangtags are made with post-consumer use paper products. For more information, visit locallygrownclothing.com. — J.L.
