Special T’s Goes Green

July 20, 2010

Special T’s, Flemington, N.J., a family owned decorator offering screen printing, embroidery and advertising specialty services, recently announced that it has ushered in a plan to become more environmentally friendly by using “green” processes and practices.

Originally started in 1990 by Bob and Ryan Amato in a home basement, Special T’s has evolved into an environmentally conscious business located in a 15,000-square-foot facility. Consisting of 12 employees, the company services more than 350 local customers ranging from sports clubs to Fortune 500 companies.

Three years ago, Special T’s switched to soy-based, water-soluble and other environmentally friendly screen printing supplies, thus not only lowering monthly costs, but catching the eyes of several Earth-conscious companies who were seeking green vendors.

“Running our equipment for 10 hours a day, five days a week, resulted in very high electric bills, not to mention our carbon footprint,” says Ryan Amato, CEO, Special T’s.

In keeping with their environmentally friendly operational practices, the company recently installed 250 solar panels, which will generate slightly more than half the company’s electrical needs for the year.

The solar installation consists of 250 General Electric panels that will generate 50,000 kilowatt hours per year. To demonstrate its commitment to environmental practices, Special T’s is planning to add 250 more panels within the next few years.
