Fruit of the Loom Honored by Chamber of Commerce

Fruit of the Loom, Bowling Green, Ky., recently received the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce’s Green to Gold Award at its annual Targeted Business and Industry Banquet.

The award is given to companies that — through product or process — exemplify green leadership as it pertains to the region’s goals to become a leader in the field.

Fruit of the Loom was recognized for its innovative and unique environmentally friendly initiatives. This includes completing its first year of operation at two Biomass Power Generation plants, reducing dependency on fossil fuels by 150 million kilowatt hours annually and a reduction of the company’s carbon footprint by more than 103,000 metric tons annually.

This year’s Targeted Business and Industry Banquet recognized 23 companies, with announcements totaling $432 million in investments and 514 jobs created. — J.L.
